According to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the New York auto show will yield a new variant corvette.
My guess? Something in between the Stingray and the Z06, maybe with bits and pieces from the Z06 and a wide body. Pretty standard stuff, much like the C6 Grand Sport, a unique front fender vent, wide body, and a few little doo-dads.
What do you think?
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from the user C7GrandSport on corvette forum. Pretty interesting custom C7 stingray paying homage to the C4 grand sport.

I've always loved the gran sports.
I sincerely hope the red stripes are only on that fender.

Yeah, the guy's build and custom paint is pretty tasteful on the C7. I like it.

My sources tell me that since GM got the direct injection pushrod thing down they'll do the same thing as BMW did with the TriPower N57S diesel, except on their new LT family of V8's. Power is expected to match or better the standard Stingray with weight slightly up, but the weight balance is kept the same and practicality is increased by greatly increasing the cargo area in the rear.
The launch edition will be painted in a stunning shade of brown.

It sure is, I love it. It would be cool to see a factory option for it.

Possibly a Z06 convertible.
I don't think it will be a grand sport, because that's what the Z51 package is.

Oh I'm sure GM will come up with some special edition one. Just like they made the C6 GS a few years ago.

No prob!
Very sweet sounding car. That would be awesome if it launches soon instead of towards the end of the C7 run.
I always get super annoyed when these awesome models are only offered at the end to keep up the sales of an older platform. Porsche always waits until the end of the 911's run to release the GTS.
This new Vette would be awesome since not everyone needs the power of the Z06 but a lot of people want the widebody and upgrades to other components.

I presume you are referring to the rumors of the turbo 6 in a 'vette?
But turbo the V8?

Definitely, it would be cool to see earlier on. That means their prices drop earlier too :)
There certainly is a market for it, as you said not everyone needs the power and many want the looks! I will say, I prefer the gills on the C6 GS over the vents on the Z06 or the Zr1.

This car will be an utter track monster! The Stingray has plenty of power to do well at the track. The widebody would eat a lot of more expensive competition alive!

Certainly, I can't wait to hear the stupid fast numbers on the Z06 though.

The Z06 will be stupid fast! And it will kill stupid drivers like me that can't even handle 400HP, haha

Yeah I'm a bit afraid of the day I will go out and finally buy a C5Z, which won't be even in the same galaxy as the C7Z

Don't even worry about how fast it will be compared to the latest version. It will still be fast enough. It will be fun no matter what.

I made a slightly more elaborate joke on the "brown turbodiesel shooting break!" jalopnik trope. I have no idea what rumors exist on the 'vette. I also have no sources.

Yeah I didn't really know what you were referring to haha. Sorry.
To be informative, there have been rumors of a lower model corvette with a turbo 6 in it. I doubt that though.

Question for clarification: The C6 Grand Sports are NOT just an "appearance package," right? I mean with the wide body comes some kind of suspension upgrades, right? If that's the case for the C7 GS that would be very welcome. As some have already said, The power of the Stingray might actually be enough for some people.

Correct-
shorter gear ratios, stiffer suspension, more robust sway bars, since it was widebody the side vents in the front were functional, bigger brakes, dry sump oil.
Only thing is it didn't have the aluminum frame the Z had, and it still had the LS3 like the base model instead of the 427 in the Z06.
The stingray certainly has enough power, and honestly they could add a couple simple modifications to the LT1 to make it run more power if they want to show off a mini bump. Either way, a GS type trim with better brakes/tires/suspension and such would go a long way.

Thanks! Interesting all the trackable goodies you can put on without bumping the engine. So in an autocross environment, are the GS's very close to the Z06's?

I'd doubt they are that far behind, but with the rigidity of the chassis on the Z06 and even more track-tuned suspension etc, I'm sure the Z will still be a decent bit ahead. The power at that point wouldn't really matter though.
I don't know specific time examples, because every time I've been to autox I have never seen a GS out there. I think they are almost exclusively owned by guys who use it as a touring car and not for track days.

If there is a variant vette the price of the Z06 will be closer to $100k then the $80k most of the rumors have it. If the Z is fully optioned at under $100k then I would consider one. The 2016 Cuda rumors have it at $80k fully loaded including the hellcat SC engine pushing close to 650 hp.
